As artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and rapidly evolving business models transform the legal profession, Nishith Desai Associates (NDA) has launched the NDA Future Lawyers Academy, a pioneering initiative designed to prepare the Firm's incoming lawyers for the future of legal practice.
The Academy reflects NDA's belief that the lawyers of tomorrow must possess not only deep legal expertise but also the transdisciplinary knowledge, technological fluency, strategic perspective, and leadership capabilities required to thrive in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
The inaugural programme welcomed 40 exceptional graduates from leading law schools across India, who are participating in an intensive two-month residential programme at NDA's state-of-the-art Blue Sky Thinking and Research Campus, Imaginarium Aligunjan, in Alibaug before formally joining the Firm on September 1, 2026. Imaginarium Aligunjan is an international institution dedicated to designing a premeditated future through embedded strategic foresight capabilities.
Designed as a bridge between legal education and professional practice, the Academy seeks to accelerate the development of young professionals by combining rigorous legal training with exposure to emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, business strategy, leadership development, legal innovation, ethics, and real-world client challenges.
The objective is both simple and ambitious: to enable every participant to contribute meaningfully from the very first day of professional practice while cultivating the adaptability, judgement, curiosity, and resilience necessary to succeed in a rapidly evolving profession.
The Academy is built around five foundational pillars:
Technical Excellence: Advanced legal research, drafting, transaction management, advisory work, and dispute resolution. Client Readiness: Practical exposure to real-world legal challenges, client expectations, and professional responsibilities. Technology and Artificial Intelligence: Responsible, effective, and strategic use of AI and emerging legal technologies. Leadership and Professional Development: Communication, collaboration, negotiation, business development, and decision-making skills. Future Readiness: Interdisciplinary learning across business, technology, governance, policy, and society.
Participants are working closely with senior leaders, mentors, and dedicated "Sherpas" while engaging in workshops, simulations, research assignments, exposure visits, and interactions with judges, regulators, entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, academics, and industry experts.
A distinctive feature of the programme is its emphasis on cultivating independent thinking and intellectual curiosity. Each participant undertakes a capstone research project addressing emerging legal, regulatory, or policy issues, encouraging original thought and solution-oriented problem-solving.
