India’s deep tech investment landscape has entered a period of sustained acceleration and growing global relevance. It is in a decisive phase of structural expansion, positioning the country as a trusted global hub for science-led innovation. With cumulative investments reaching approximately $28 billion over the last decade, deep tech has graduated from a niche allocation to a core pillar of India’s economic strategy, spanning critical domains such as Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, space technologies, and advanced manufacturing.

This momentum reflects a fundamental shift towards indigenous capability creation, where Indian enterprises are moving beyond software services to build robust, IP-driven infrastructure and hardware systems designed for resilience and global scale.

This report, launched by Indian Deep Tech Alliance (IDTA) during the India AI Impact Summit 2026, presents a comprehensive analysis of the investment landscape, detailing the capital flows, sector-specific growth patterns, and the emerging cohort of deep-tech champions defining these categories. We have examined the critical role of enabling policy frameworks, specifically the transition from foundational regulations to active market-creating regulatory flywheels. The report also assesses the patent landscape to understand India's intellectual property capabilities. Furthermore, the report highlights the strategic alignment between private capital, public policy, and institutional research required to bridge the gap between early-stage innovation and global commercial leadership.
